Troy was raised in one of the golf capitals of the world, Florida and has been teaching golf professionally for 15 years. He proudly teaches at the Golf Club of Houston's Academy, the best golf facility in Houston and home to many PGA Tour players and former host of the Shell and Houston Open.
He began golfing at the early age of 9 and moved through National Junior Golfing ranking "Top 100 Jr. Golfers" by Golfweek Magazine and had several top finishes in AJGA events. While in high school he worked with former PGA tour player Steve Longmontange where he was introduced to now Fed-Ex cup winner Billy Horschel. He gained extensive training at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy (now IMG Academy) and then went on to earn a Division 1 Golf Scholarship to the University of Mississippi, but later transferred to the University of Northern Colorado where he made first team in his conference.
Troy played golf professionally, where he had several top ten finishes on the NGA Pro Golf Tour. In addition to his on-course playing experience, Troy has been a Certified Teaching Professional at Golf-TEC where he was featured on NBC's Golf Channel's “The Fix”.
Troy has trained and mentored extensively with Charlie Epps, former instructor for The Masters, U.S. Open Champion Angel Cabrera, and was mentored by renowned golf coach Mike McGetrick, former PGA Instructor of the Year. He has recently been recognized as a Scott Cox certified instructor (Scott was the Canadian PGA teacher of the year and considered one of the brightest minds in golf).
